Power Circuit of a Star Delta or Wye Delta Forward Reverse Electric Motor Controller - A basic industrial process automation control how to do guide for reversible star (wye) delta motor controller

Our previous article covered a typical star delta or wye delta motor controller which is focused on a common circuit intended for a single rotational direction of a 3 phase AC induction motor. But certain star delta motor control applications would also require a reversible motor rotation.

Power Circuit of a single (1) Phase Direct On Line DOL Electric Motor Controller - A basic industrial process automation control how to do guide

Further to the previously discussed electric motor controller with a three (3) phase Direct On Line (DOL) power circuit is the application of similar DOL power circuit for a single (1) phase small size AC electric motor.

Power Circuit of a Star Delta or Wye Delta Electric Motor Controller - A basic how to guide

Reduction of the AC induction motor's starting inrush current is achieved by implementing an interchanging star delta or a wye delta connection of the motor, this can be done by incorporating a configured star delta connection of the motor by using magnetic contactors or magnetic starter switches. The diagram below illustrates this type of motor switching connection used in every electrical industry involving industrial process automation control technology.

A how to guide for the Power Circuit of a Forward Reverse Electric Motor Controller

There are certain applications that requires forward and reverse direction of motor rotation, such as a conveyor system, or perhaps the opening and closing of valves. Another example is with overhead cranes which would also require a hoist up and down function, traverse forward and backward, and a left and right traveling function. Such application would most certainly make use of a forward and reverse motor control which is intended to achieve clockwise and counter clockwise motor rotational direction.

A how to guide for the Power Circuit of a 3 Phase Direct On Line DOL Electric Motor Controller

In the simplest method of motor operation for small size AC induction motors, the Direct On Line (DOL) motor controller is most popular in terms of simplicity and control device availability. DOL motor controller is suitable for application with small capacity motors which does not cause too much high inrush current that can pull down the supply voltage of the available power source from the electricity supply grid.
